Hello! I'm Stepan Mikoska, a passionate Czech sports physical therapist who has taken an unconventional path in his professional career.
After completing my university studies at the Faculty of Physical Education, I decided to gain practical experience through an internship (Erasmus internship) in Jerez de la Frontera, a city in southwestern Spain.
After the internship, I felt a strong desire to specialize in sports physical therapy, but there were no sports-focused master's programs available in the Czech Republic. That's why I chose to pursue a Master's degree at the University of Granada, where I enrolled in the Master's program in Manual and Invasive Physiotherapy for Pain and Dysfunction.
During my studies in Granada, I acquired extensive knowledge in different areas of sports physiotherapy. I learned manual therapy techniques such as mobilization, manipulation, myofascial techniques, and the fundamentals of osteopathy. I also became familiar with invasive methods such as dry needling, invasive neuromodulation, and electrolysis (EPI), which are widely used in sports physiotherapy. One of the highlights of these techniques is the use of ultrasound imaging. The program also provided me with a solid base in sports readaptation and biomechanics, allowing me to approach my work from a biomechanical perspective.
One of the best experiences of my studies was doing an internship at CF Granada, a professional football club. There, I had the opportunity to closely experience interdisciplinary work in sports physiotherapy. I collaborated with physiotherapists, doctors, coaches, and other members of the technical team to care for and enhance the players' health.
After completing my studies, I received an exciting offer to stay in Spain and help establish a new sports clinic in the city centre of Granada. In that role, I had the opportunity to lead a team of sports physiotherapists and apply the techniques and knowledge acquired during my master's degree. It was incredibly rewarding to support athletes and help them improve their performance through a comprehensive biomechanical approach.
In February 2022, I joined the marketing team at BTL, where I write articles and prepare video posts for social media.
This job also allows me to combine my work as a sports physiotherapist for athletes. With ten years of personal experience in javelin throwing and notable achievements in the sport, I bring a unique perspective to my work.
As part of the Physiostepbystep project, my goal is to present what sports physiotherapy truly means to me. On the website, you will find articles, a free exercise library, and, of course, the services I offer.
